Ryan Leslie – “When I Think About Love”
February 26, 2010 |No Comments| by skip
Ryan Leslie definitely got it right with this record. I can even see a nice remix coming from this. If 50 Cent was still any good, I’d tell Ryan to give him a call. Ladies, hit that download link and enjoy. Fellas, do the same. There’s nothing wrong with a little R&B every now and then.

A Skip Review: “Shutter Island”
February 26, 2010 |No Comments| by skip
I decided to brace the heavy rain and wind to head over the local cinema last night where I saw Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island.” Wow, what a movie. From the very beginning, I was captivated by the eerie storyline, vivid imagery, and an absolutely stunning performance from one of my favorite actors, Leonardo DiCaprio. “Shutter Island” was able to fill everyone in the theater with several different emotions throughout the film; sadness to amusement to utter fear in a matter of minutes. The twist at the end threw me for a complete loop and had me wanting to stand and applaud what Scorsese and DiCaprio were able to accomplish once again. I highly recommend everyone go check out “Shutter Island” before it’s too late… Muhahahahaha. Update: Dizzle just opened my eyes to yet another twist at the very end I completely missed. Wow.

Secret Jones – “One By One”
The name Secret Jones is not just a name, it’s a statement. Not being one to talk much about his life and experiences in person, he shares it all with the microphone instead. Jones’s music, much like himself, is very hard to put a label on. Is it hip-hop? Absolutely. But in what genre of hip-hop do you categorize it? Southern rap or New York hip-hop? East Coast or West Coast? An artist is often influenced by the region in which they live because it directly relates to how they experienced the world. Secret Jones, however, didn’t experience the world in one place. Born in Europe, and then moving to the United States in his early childhood, Secret Jones has lived down south, up north, and on both coasts of this country. The result of such an upbringing is a musical style that is just as eclectic and diverse as his background. His musical influences range from the classic soul artists of the 70’s to modern rock artists of the new millennium and everywhere in between. If asked to describe his style, Jones would reply with a non-descript “I make music.” But his sound is more like the result of Common and Miike Snow having a musical baby. Secret Jones paints his thoughts on a variety of different canvases, but there is one common theme in all of his songs. He writes what he feels, when he feels it, with no hesitation or compromise. What you listen to reflects exactly what he felt when he first heard the music that his lyrics are now laid over. Secret Jones’ music is art and expression in its purest form. After you listen to it, you may know him better than some of his closest friends.

“A Nightmare On Elm Street” Trailer
February 25, 2010 |No Comments| by skipFreddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.
Michael Bay is directing this so you know it’s gonna be something worth watching. As far as scary movies go, I’m checkin’ out “Shutter Island” tonight. This may just be next on my list.
